Invitation to Christmas meditation in Santini Chapel
17 Dec 2024 15:00-17:00
We cordially invite you to Christmas meditation in the Santini Chapel on Charles Square! Make time to come on Tuesday, 17 December from 3.00 to 5.00 pm to experience the magic of this historic place during the Advent season. Did you know that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the CTU hides one of the most important historical monuments - the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre - in its premises on Charles Square? This unique space, designed by the Baroque genius Jan Blazej Santini-Aichl, is one of the last remnants of the once extensive Crusader monastery. Santini's architecture, which combines Baroque elements with Gothic and Renaissance influences, still brings the experience of the harmonious interplay of geometry and spiritual space.
In the chapel, which opens only rarely, we can let the atmosphere and charm of the place impress us. Light a candle and meditate. But we can also talk about its history, its possible access to students and its possible uses. In doing so, you'll learn, among other things, what stood on the site of today's parking lot and Building E, and what the original significance of Building G on the Charles Square campus was.
The chapel can be reached by the entrance from Na Zbořenci Street, Prague 2 (see map below).
