Introduction of Santini's Chapel to CTU Students and Staff

04 Feb 2025   15:00-17:00

You are invited to a meeting at Santini's Chapel in Charles Square within the premises of CTU's Faculty of Electrical Engineering, taking place on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Within the grounds of Na Zderaze, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU conceals a significant historical monument – the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, designed by the Baroque genius Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. This unique chapel is one of the last remnants of the once extensive monastery
of the Crusaders. Santini's architecture, which combines Baroque, Gothic, and Renaissance influences, creates a harmonious interplay of geometry and spiritual space.

During the gathering, you will learn more about the history of this unique place, as well as its possible future. We will discuss opportunities to make the chapel accessible to a wider public and potential uses for this space. Participants are welcome to contribute their opinions and suggestions during our meeting.

For those interested in history, we will also share what once stood on the site of today's parking lot and building E, or the original significance of building G in the campus at Charles Square.

The gathering is held to commemorate the anniversary of the birth of Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel, who would be 348 years old this year.

You can access the chapel via the entrance from Na Zbořenci Street, Prague 2.
