ACDRC MEMS chip technologies Workshop

02 Feb 2026-06 Feb 2026   09:00-16:00

Unlock the Micro-World: A Hands-On Journey into MEMS!
Are you fascinated by the tiny marvels that power our modern world? Do you want to understand the technology behind your smartphone's features, medical diagnostics, or industrial sensors? Join our intensive winter course on MEMS Technologies and dive deep into the fascinating realm of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems!

What are MEMS? MEMS, or Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems, are microscopic devices that integrate mechanical and electrical components on a single chip, typically ranging from a few micrometers to millimeters in size. Unlike traditional microchips that only process electrical signals, MEMS incorporate moving or deformable mechanical parts.

Where are MEMS Used? MEMS are ubiquitous in today's technology! They are the unsung heroes inside your smartphone (accelerometers, gyroscopes, microphones), cars (airbag sensors, tire pressure monitors), medical devices (micropumps, pressure sensors), and a vast array of industrial and consumer electronics.

Why are MEMS so crucial for today's devices? MEMS enable unparalleled miniaturization, increased sensitivity, reduced power consumption, and enhanced functionality, making them indispensable for creating smart, connected, and highly efficient devices across virtually every sector. They are critical for the Internet of Things (IoT), advanced wearables, autonomous vehicles, and next-generation medical technologies.

Course Structure (3 Intensive Sessions):
This course is designed to take you from foundational understanding to practical simulation skills, providing a comprehensive insight into MEMS technology.

Session I: The Real World of MEMS - Chips, Design & Applications

What you'll explore: Get up close with tangible examples of real MEMS chips, including various sensors (e.g., accelerometers, pressure sensors) and actuators. We'll delve into their fundamental design principles, the intricate fabrication processes involved, essential testing methodologies, and their widespread applications across diverse industries.

Objective: To provide a solid foundational understanding and tangible insight into MEMS devices.

Session II: Mastering MEMS Design & Simulation - Step by Step

What you'll learn: Building on the understanding of physical devices from Session I, this session will guide you through the systematic process of designing MEMS devices. We will demystify the steps involved in conceptualizing and modeling these micro-scale systems, providing a clear, step-by-step explanation of simulation techniques.

Objective: To equip you with the theoretical knowledge required for MEMS design and simulation.

Session III: Hands-On MEMS Simulation Workshop

What you'll do: This is where theory meets practice! You will be divided into small groups and provided with laptops pre-loaded with simulation software. Under expert guidance, you'll get hands-on experience in simulating MEMS devices, applying the principles learned in Session II to practical design challenges.

Objective: To provide practical, guided experience in MEMS simulation using industry-relevant tools.

Who Should Attend?
This course is ideal for engineering students, researchers, and professionals interested in microelectronics, mechatronics, sensor technology, IoT, and advanced manufacturing. No prior experience with MEMS design software is required, but a basic understanding of electronics and mechanics will be beneficial.

Don't miss this opportunity to gain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving field of micro-systems!
