The BOOTES World-Wide Network of Robotic Telescopes
13.04.2010 14:30-16:00
Alberto J. Castro-Tirado, IAA-CSIC Granada, Spain
The number of automatic astronomical facilities worldwide continues to grow, and the level of robotisation, autonomy, and networking is increasing as well. I will present the current status of the Burst and Optical Transient Exploring System (BOOTES) Network, which started in 1998 as a Spanish-Czech collaboration in south Spain and now it has extended worldwide. This has (and will have) an impact in many astrophysical fields like the search for extra-solar planets through microlensing events, the monitoring of variable stars in our Galaxy, the study of active galactic nuclei, the detection and monitoring of supernovae, and the immediate follow-up of high-energy transients such as gamma-ray bursts (GRB). I will review some of their findings, mainly in the GRB field.
